From Indonesia with love
A little story about us
Our Indonesian restaurant was founded by Chang Chian Lo and Lee Thau Chen, an Indonesian couple who arrived in Hong Kong in the early 1960s. They introduced authentic Indonesian cuisine to the city, establishing the first Indonesian restaurant in Hong Kong. Their dedication to traditional flavors and exceptional hospitality has made our restaurant a beloved culinary destination.
In the early 1960s, a young couple from Indonesia arrived in Hong Kong with nothing but their dreams and determination. Struggling at first, they worked tirelessly, saving every penny they could. With their hard-earned savings and an unyielding spirit, they opened a small Indonesian restaurant. Through their dedication and passion for sharing their homeland’s flavors, they transformed their modest eatery into a beloved culinary destination, bringing a taste of Indonesia to Hong Kong and building a legacy that continues to thrive.
The Chang couple, who had five children—two daughters, three sons, and twin boys—faced immense challenges during the SARS outbreak in 2003, with business dwindling to HKD500 a day. They considered closing their restaurant, but their three sons were determined to preserve their legacy. The sons secured a bank loan, modernized the restaurant, and worked tirelessly to promote Indonesian cuisine. Their dedication paid off, earning the restaurant Michelin Bib Gourmand awards from 2011 to 2017. In 2023, they relocated to a new, stylish venue on Cochrane Street in Central.
